OUR APPROACH

OceanQ

So how do we do what we do?

We aim to help the planet by reducing the impact of climate change. We offer many products and services to help reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability. We have energy-efficient products to help customers reduce their carbon footprint and consulting services to help businesses become more sustainable. We educate the public about the importance of living sustainably and reducing carbon emissions. Our mission is to create a sustainable future for our planet and communities. By working together, we can ensure a better future for generations to come.

Why do we need to do this?

Carbon dioxide (CO2) dissolves in water to form carbonic acid (H2CO3) which can make water acidic and decrease its pH level. This increased acidity can harm marine life such as fish, corals, and shellfish. As the ocean absorbs more and more CO2 from the atmosphere, the water becomes more acidic and reduces the ability of marine organisms to form shells and skeletons. This can result in a decline of these species which could impact entire ocean ecosystems. Removing CO2 from water can help to reduce its acidity and protect marine life. Additionally, removing CO2 from water is beneficial for drinking water treatment as high levels of CO2 can cause the water to have a sour taste and promote the growth of bacteria. Removing CO2 can improve the overall quality and safety of the water used for consumption.

Our Approach

One potential solution to reduce atmospheric CO2 levels and combat climate change is the process of removing CO2 from the ocean water through a technique known as mineral carbonation. This involves using renewable sources of energy to convert the dissolved CO2 in the ocean into an insoluble carbonate rock, which can then be sequestered for a geological timeframe. The process involves extracting the ocean water through pipelines and pumping it into large storage tanks, where it is then mixed with minerals such as calcium and magnesium to react with the CO2 and form the carbonate rock. This process not only reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere but also helps to reduce ocean acidification. Research and development on this technology are still ongoing, but it shows great potential for a sustainable solution to mitigate climate change.
